Simple Birthday Card

#30
Today i made this pretty simple Birthday card. I was trying out mixing two happy Birthday stamps to make it look a bit more interesting. By masking off part of the stamps when I inked them I was able to use the Happy from one stamp and the BIRTHDAY from another. I have to say I like the look of the two fonts on one card.
I used a paper piercer to create the holes beside the BIRTHDAY. Then to fill the space after the Happy I used a little prima flower. I popped the circle up on the base. The base is also very simple with a small piece of pattern paper and a ribbon.

Birdhouse Card

#29
Today I stepped on a brad. That sure wasn't fun. It went right into my heel! Good thing I just recently got a tetanus shot ;P
All painful injuries aside I was looking through the Stampin' Up catalogue and saw a birdhouse card. (Sorry there's no picture but it was too small) So I felt inspired to do my own.
It's pretty simple to make the birdhouse, just cut one piece of paper for the base and two strips for the roof. I put a piece of ribbon on the house to cover up a failed attempt at stamping a greeting. The flowers at the bottom were cut from a piece of pattern paper, not the easiest thing to do. Then I added the blue button for a little added embellishment.

Popsicles

#28
Recently I took the pictures off the side of my blog but I used to have a picture of a Popsicle card I made. I made another one to share in a post because I think it's like the cutest thing ever. So this card was inspired by ChicnScratch on youtube. I used a green ribbon for mine and instead of a scalloped punch I used a circle cutter. The stamp I used for the greeting was from the dollar bin at Michales craft store. The orange stamp is from Stampin' Up.

Cricut Flower

#27
After the journal I made yesterday there were a bunch of left over petals from the cricut circle thing I cut. I took all those petals and arranged them into this flower. I took a prima flower and a brad to spruce it up a bit. For the pattern paper I chose a blue green dotted paper that kind of matches the brad on the flower.

Dream Journal

#26
Hello! So lately I've been having some pretty messed up dreams and I always tell my dreams to my friends but I'm pretty sure they don't want to hear them. It's pretty cheesy but I made a dream journal to record them in so I can look but when I'm older and remember how weird I was. I took an old school exercise book and covered it with patterned paper. To make it look like an old style book I used a piece of card stock as a spine. I cut out that big circle thing on my cricut and then found a chip board die cut for the center. On the spine I stamped DREAMS but it's hard to tell in the picture.
I glimmer misted the front to make it all shimmery.

Re-purposed Can

#25
I was looking at this little drawer thing I have that holds my perfect pearls and a few embossing powders I don't keep in Ziploc containers and was thinking I should put them in something else because it was really full. I found this old coffee can and decorated it so I could put them in something pretty. I covered the can with pattern paper and glue a ribbon around the top edge. On the top I put one of those Tim Holtz inspired flowers that I've done a post on before. I cut the leaves bunch of fake flowers and embossed them with gold embossing powder.

Clean Up

So Mondays are my busiest day of the week. Guitar, Pretty Little Liars, and just general tiredness because it's Monday. Over the last 24 days I haven't cleaned up once so I've decided to make Monday "Clean Up Day" I won't be posting on Mondays anymore but instead taking the day off and cleaning up the past week's crafts. Honestly it gets pretty hard to create something while working in a four inch square I have left. :)

French Tree

#23
I have a commitment to posting everyday but it really sucks when you have to do French homework too. So why not combine them? I had to do a poster about me for French and so I decided to paint the poster board so it would look creative because we're kinda being graded on creativity. The title is MOI but for some reason it doesn't show up in the picture. I would show a picture of the finished product but it has a bunch of personal stuff that I wouldn't want to put online so this just the background.

Embossed Birthday Card

#22
Today I made this card with a bunch of random papers that i found, lying on my table. The pink scallops were already punched and all the other papers were basically the exact size I needed them. For some added interested i used a Versamarker and coloured in the circles then with clear embossing powder, made them look glossy and raised. I also used clear embossing powered for the "Birthday" stamp.

Discus + Headache = ?

#21
Pounding headaches from hitting my head on a discus doesn't result in the best cards but here's something I managed to do today. For the pattern in the background I used a paper towel roll as a sort of stamp and blue paint as the ink. I cut the green paper with my cricut then inked the edges to make it stand out more. I popped the green star thing up with dimensional adhesive and then tied on a ribbon.

Cricut Card

#20
I was looking through the little booklet that comes with the cricut cartridges and found this school certificate thing. Without using the shadow function as well i thought it would make a cool boarder. I cut it on white paper then covered the whole thing with peeled paint distress ink. I popped it off of a blue card base then added the pink flower and called it done.

More Trees

#19
After six and a half hours of school the last thing I want to do is more school work but since teachers get away with calling it homework I'm not technically allowed to complain. I'm going to anyway. So after doing an annotation timeline on the Metis, a hydration assignment and math homework on the division of polynomials I just needed to unwind. So instead of sitting back an watching lame shows on TLC I painted/ scribbled in my art journal. I find it a pretty good way to unwind while painting and screaming, "BLAH!" in my head. After my explosion of paint I took some crayons and drew a tree because the best way to forget about school is to just act like a little kid and scribble trees into a journal with crayons.

Another Bookmark

#18
Ugh! After multiple failed attempts at something at least presentable I came up with this. it's a simple bookmark because I seem to have lost my other one. It's really plain but I was so fed up with all the failed attempts at what I was trying to do, this is all I could muster. I took a piece of pattern paper and put on a bunch of those wall stickers from the "Don't Forget To Be Awesome" post a few days ago. I covered the paper with distress ink then added more flowers and another layer of ink. When I took the stickers off I was left with a two toned affect. I also did some faux stitching around the edge with a pink marker for a little added interest.

HUNGER GAMES!!!!!!!!!!

#17
Today I made this sign for my bedroom door. You won't get it if you haven't read the hunger games trilogy but in the third book there's a major rebellion and everyone is always yelling "DOWN WITH THE CAPITOL!" You can buy the slogan on shirts and stuff but it's so expensive. I decided to make by one Hunger Games memorabilia. I cut the letters out on my cricut but used the negative as a sort of stencil. I painted the cardboard with white paint then then sponged on some black paint really sloppily. It looks a lot like my computer desktop now although that picture looks like it was done with spray paint. To see the original picture I imitated just google images "DOWN WITH THE CAPITOL!"

Stampin' Up Inspired

#16
I saw this card in the Stampin' Up catalogue and thought I'd try my own version.
Here's what i came up with. I didn't have a flower stamp like they used so I used a tree. I also wanted it to be a thank you card so instead of writing love on an L, I wrote thanks on a T. The ribbon I had was pretty close to the blue but I didn't have a thin ribbon that matched the card so i left it out.
For the background on the circle I didn't have a scrip stamp so I used a dot stamp. I didn't like how it was so perfect though so I stamped it again to give it a more random look.

Don't Forget To Be Awesome

#15
I had this old jewelry box for a long time but then I redid my room and didn't have a place for it so i painted it. I started painting it a while back but then just put it to the side and never really finished it. Today I though i should finish it so I can get it out of the basement. To make the letters I used these letter stickers that are meant for walls so they come off really easy. Fist I painted the lid white then put on the stickers and painted it black. Then I peeled off the stickers to reveal perfect white letters. DFTBA is acronym for don't forget to be awesome. It's a widely know phrase in the nerdfigher community.

The blue paint I used is basically the same colour as one of the walls in my bedroom so it looks pretty good in my room.

Strawberry Card

#14
Today I made a pretty simple card. It wouldn't have taken as long as it did if I was able to thread the string onto the needle. Basically I took some kraft card stock and punched the edge. I put some red card stock behind it then on some white card stock I repeatedly stamped "happy birthday" I cut out two circles and layered them. Then stamped two strawberries and raised one up with dimensional adhesive. Then i hand stitched a little accent.

Bright and Colourful Card

#13
Today I did this card using a few different techniques. I stamped the swirly flower with embossing ink on the card base and embossed it in white. I used a border stamp on the orange paper then glued it to the green paper. i also used the swirly flower with versamark ink on the green paper. I didn't emboss it so it just looks like a water mark. I then cut out birthday on the cricut and glued it on the white paper. The green, orange and white paper is one piece that I popped up with dimensional adhesive. And yes i do realize nothing is on straight, I don't know what's wrong with me today.

Chipboard Art

#12
The chipboard was still out from yesterday so I thought I do something with it. I grabbed a bunch of random pieces and arranged them like a flower. Then I painted then and added some black doodles. Nothing much really but I think it could be cool to put on top of a box or something.

Bows anyone?

#11
After an extremely boring day I decided I would make something a bit different, and by a bit I mean a lot. So I was rummaging through my things and found this scalloped circle piece of chip board. I didn't know what to do with the whole thing since it was pretty big so I cut it to fit the front of a card. I then covered it with some paper and then sat back in my chair and was like, "Well... what am I supposed to do now?" I decided to cut the bottom off the card so the chip board became the bottom and then found some of this teal blue paper and stamped the "CELEBRATE YOU" on it after putting all that on I realized it needed something, i didn't know what, but it needed something. I found some thick ribbon and tied that on. Now I can't decide if I actually like this card but it's something different then the flat rectangular cards that are so normal.

COLOURING!!!

#10
Today I wasn't feeling incredibly crafty so I decided to reminisce with my childhood and colour a picture.
I guess when I was a little kid I didn't notice but now i have realized colouring books have the weirdest pictures.
I'm assuming this is a little boy but don't you think he looks extremely feminine with the big lips and long eyelashes.
And who's letting this kids pick wild mushrooms?!?!?!?!? Don't they know they're probably poisonous?!?!
And if you were looking for something crafty here's a card I made on Sunday.

Tree Painting

#9
I think I might have an obsession with trees. This is the second post into the 2011 Project that has involved trees and whenever I find myself painting it usually involves trees in some way or another. I'm not sure if it's because I have some deeper connection to trees or because they are simply squiggles and they're the only thing i paint. But either way, today i bring to you this not so original piece of work. "Not so original" because I was inspired by (basically copied) a You Tuber. I feel bad that I can give them more credit than that but honestly I can't remember what the channel was called or even when i watched the video. All I remember is watching the video and saying, "Hey, I should try that!" So right when I saw the video I painted the background but then stopped because I couldn't remember what was the bottom so I tried to watch the video again but since i didn't really pay attention to who made the video it was no use. Thus the background stayed on my craft table just waiting to be finished until today when I realized... The sun could either be coming up or going down and since I don't know which side is the bottom, it doesn't really matter.

Inspiration Book

#8
Today I'd thought I'd make a little inspirational book to put all my ideas for videos in. (I have a YouTube channel with my friends if you didn't know)
First I cut a piece of card bored 6 1/2 inches tall and 6 inches wide. At three inches from both sides I scored the card bored to create the spine of the book. I then glued in A LOT of paper to the inside. I then covered the front with some hand painted deli paper. I probably should have done that before gluing the paper in but whatever. On my cricut I cut the channels username with some pinkish coloured pattern paper.

I covered the inside cover with more deli paper.

I wrote "ideas" on another piece of pattern paper then on another piece, "FRIDAY!!!". I connected the two pieces with an eyelet so the "ideas" piece can swivel to reveal my day of the week.

I made a little tutorial video that I'll post on the channel this Friday.

Sewing

#7
My aunt taught me how to sew on paper over the winter break so I thought I'd try it out on this card. I just simply sewed around the edges as sort of a test. I didn't want to add to much else to the card so I layered a whole bunch of white flowers together, added a dew drop and a friend stamp and called it done. NOTE: this card would be a bit hard to send through the mail.

Cricut Bag

#6
So today I thought I'd try to make one of the bags from my cricut. The one I choose... well... let's just say it was a bad idea. I mean it turned out pretty cool in the end, but trying to match up all the little tab parts around the circle thing took FOREVER!
Above is what it looked like before I decorated it.
I used peeled paint distress ink for the butterfly stamps and then distressed the edges with vintage photo. I would say that they could make good party favor bags but if you plan to make more than ONE be sure to start making them WAY in advance ;P

Flower Card

#5
Today I made this simple card. I used a piece of kraft card stock by Stampin' Up (5 1/2 - 4 1/3 folded in half) I cut the flower out of the front side of a My Mind's Eye patterned paper and it is popped up on dimensional adhesive. The green paper is from the other side of the paper. I distressed the edges of both the green and kraft paper with walnut stain distress ink. The happy birthday stamp is from a Stampin' Up set called A Little Birthday Cheer.

Tree Art

#4
This picture doesn't really serve the piece justice, there's really a lot more colour in the background. Anyway so basically I used some distress inks to cover the whole piece of card stock. (broken china, peeled paint, walnut stain) Then with a wet paint brush I drew on some trees. When water comes in contact with the inks it pushes the colour away and leaves a ghostly looking image. Then I took a permanent marker and drew the tree and the doodles. It's all really simple but turned out really cool.

Mini Chocolate Box

#3

I had this mini box of chocolates from Christmas but since all the chocolates are gone now I thought I'd alter the box into something creative.
I painted the lid of the box with a thick coat of white paint then over dried it with a heat gun so it bubbled up and created a bit of texture. I then used a sponge to dab on two shades of green paint. I mixed some perfect pearls with water then painted it on the top to add some shine. I sprayed the flowers with a mixture of bronze perfect pearls, walnut stain distress ink and water. I used green coloured dew drops for the centers.
I kept the bottom simple or it wouldn't close. I just wrapped the base with some paper and used the same mixture I used on the flowers to distress it.

Paper Quilt

#2

So my winter break is coming to an end but this project it's just beginning. My Aunt came for Christmas and we made this really cool paper quilt thing. She also did a post on her blog (http://alteredbookstudio.blogspot.com/) You can check it out for more details.
Basically the piece consists of paper squares that form a sort of quilt. For a bit of embellishment we added some leaves that were cut from my cricut. There are also some gold leaf shapes that my Aunt cut from this mesh stuff. The whole piece has sort of a fall vibe and even though it's winter we put it up.

The 2011 Project

So it's been almost a year since I started this blog and I haven't really been posting much. I always say I'll try to post more but I've never really followed through with it. With it being the 1st day of 2011 I have decided that my new year's resolution is to post every single day. Will see how this works out....

Post #1: For Christmas I got Perfect Pearls and I made this tag above. I was just fooling around so I'm not really sure what I did but it sure is sparkly.
In real like this flower looks almost like metal, it's pretty cool.
This little butterfly charm was given to me by a friend. It was just silver before but I added some ink and made it look a bit distressed. On the background I mixed perfect pearls with water and painted on some shimmery doodles. when the water mixed with the distress inked background it did some pretty cool things.

... There, that wasn't so hard just 364 posts to go.
