Books and Bracelets

It's been a while... Sorry but I haven't been doing any crafting. All summer I mostly just read and wrote. Above are all the book marks I made for the books I read over the summer.
I did make some friendship bracelets though. I've only tried simple patters but you can look up tutorials on YouTube for some very creative ones.
I will be making many more with all the embroidery floss I bought. I got it in a HUGE bag at Walmart.

Tangled Headphone Solution

Remember these beads? You would put them on those pegged shapes and iron them.
My friend pulled out her headphones the other day and I saw she had covered them in these beads. They won't tangle with them on! I asked her how she did it and I thought I'd share it with you.
This is better if you are one of those people that don't wrap their headphones on the iPod but just toss them in their bag. I do that because i use my iPhone as an iPod and you can't use the phone with headphones wrapped around it.
Use small scissors or a knife to cut a slit in the beads.
I found it helps to push a pencil through the bead to open it then push it on the headphones.
For apple headphones you'll need about 150 beads. If you did rainbow colours like me you'll need 21 of each colour.
Don't worry if you don't like it, they are easy to take off but they won't fall off either.

This Year's Art Projects

My gosh... its hard to believe I actually got through my first year of high school. Well... I still have two exams left. Although... in a stunning turn of events I manage to pull a 93% in math class. Not quite sure how that happened.

Above is my project for a hand drawing assignment. (It's my name in sign language)
I really hate pencil drawings but my teacher seemed to like it so that's good. In all honesty I think making that the last project of the year nobody in the class had enough attention to not complain the whole week and a half project. (me included)

Our class had a water color unit a while ago but we only got our projects back now... or found our projects.  I asked my teacher where mine might have gone because i didn't remember taking it home and he insisted he handed them back. Nobody got theirs back!
I looked around the class room and found the whole classes' projects in a box...
Anyway I got them back and here they are.

The amount of time i spent looking through mutilated national geographic magazines for something to paint was probably longer than I actually spent painting. Seriously I don't know what is is with people and their inability to rip out their pictures without destroying the whole book.

Mother's Day

These are the two mother's day cards that I made this year. The top one has a stamped butterfly that is colored with watercolor pencils. I curled the wings a bit when it was still wet so when i attached it to the card just by the body the winds stuck up. I also added some flowers and stamped "mom"
This card i realize now totally looks like an m&m...
Anyway... i cut the bottom of the card with a circle cutter and added this scallop piece of chipboard. I embossed the dots as well as a few layers onto a shiny dark blue m i had.

Harry Potter Wire Sculpter

I made some wire sculpures in art and just got them back today. I've done wire sculpture in the past but then the wire was about three times thinner. MY GOD this was so hard to work with! I made a Golden Snitch from Harry Potter as my main project but finished with a few days left so I made a Harry Potter book.
The Snitch was supposed to be life size (much smaller than it turned out) but I'm not to bright and so i started the sphere as big as it would be life size but it just grew and grew... (Looks a bit like a girl with pig tails)
This picture is kind of blurry but I made swirls to mimic the designs on the actual snitch best I could with the wire. For the wings I tried to make the individual feather like structures but that was driving me nuts and was not working. Instead I used multiple pieces of wire to look like it's moving.
Harry Potter J K Rowling
The book was made quite quickly as just a sort of side project so it's not so good. I manly like the letters that I painted with nail polish so they would stand out against the black wire of the cover. I used just single wires for the pages to make them look thin.

Pink Painting

Finally painted this for my bathroom. I've wanted some art in there since we redid it in the summer. I got the idea from a magazine... not sure what magazine though.
Basically just draw on the lines and then use a color on the bottom and add a bit more white to the paint for each layer above.
I'm probably just to lazy to do another coat but i kind of like how the paint isn't completely solid in each block and that its a bit streaky.

Happy Easter/ Birthday

Yesterday my friend had a birthday party. I love this floral wrapping paper so I went a little overboard with it, using it for the card and a bookmark. I got her three books, Rot & Ruin, The Maze Runner and Going Bovine. I find it a bit amusing how the gift looks very girly but the books are completely the opposite...

And Happy Easter!

New Blog and Spring Card

This card is pretty simple i was just in the mood to make a card yesterday and this is what came out of it. I really like the colours in the patterns in the background. I also think the card could look nice vertical as well, i dunno.

I started a new blog about writing. I'll still post here on the weekly-ish schedule that i have. if you want, check it out here: http://trail-of-words.blogspot.ca/

Me and my friends are dressing up and... I GET TO BE KATNISS! AHHHHHHHH! do i did my nails... they are supposed to by flames like in the book but they didn't turn out so great. I need to get my very own Cinna! (read the hunger games and you'll get it)

Three Presents

This is the card i gave my brother for his birthday. Maybe its a bit feminine but i just got those three colors of card stock from Papertrey Ink and i wanted to use them all. I also got the stamp set that i used for the white embossed part. Oh what's it called? I can't remember and i'm to lazy to go find out... haha. well i know it says dots in the name or something like that. Anyway i'm sure he doesn't really care.

FLY bookmark

Considering the fact i read so much, i find all i end up crafting are bookmarks. There are many more than i even share on this blog. But this one, i particularly like so thus the picture above. I stamped a butterfly and embossed it in gold then layered some random papers on the bottom portion. I stamped "FLY" in the bottom corner and then punched three holes and rounded the top corners.

THE ART PROJECT OF DOOM!

SO i finished...
I'd say i'm proud of it... except for the camera. The lens looks like raw pizza dough in flight or something. I'll still do some more touch ups at school. I think we get Tuesday to work on them as well.
^ like seriously what is this??? It looks ridiculous!
Oh... and this is what my hands always look like afterwords... so i'm glad i'm done.

Art Project Progress Day 3

Lets face it... i have no idea what i'm doing. I was going to do more today but when i got to the tiny white writing on the camera i gave up for better things. Aside from the drawing i've watched the first 10 episodes of Switched at Birth (volume 1 DVD) in the last 24 hours.... i regret nothing! Its a really good show BTW.
Anyway, now that i don't have anymore tv to watch i'll be able to concentrate more on drawing.
UGH! i DO NOT want to do this anymore.
Having art for homework isn't quite as fun as just art as a hobby.

Art Project Progress

This is what I've done today. if you can't tell i'm kinda a procrastinator. I REALLY don't want to start the distortion!

Grid Distortion Drawing

This is the art project that i need to finish for Tuesday.... yayyyy...
OMGHHKP it takes FOREVER!
Rules:
Must distort part of the image
Must go ONE SQUARE ARE A TIME!
It takes about a half hour to do one horizontal line. With my attention span after that i need to go scream in a pillow or something. Pencil drawings like this are not my thing. I've barley even started the distortion but my brain already knows it doesn't work that way.
The camera is the part that i am distorting. Instead of the grid being squares... over the camera the grid has wavy vertical lines. Being the inexperienced drawer that i am this is not easy.

I'll update tomorrow with my progress...

Butterfly Valentine's Card

This is a card i made for my aunt for Valentine's day. For the butterflies i cut out the images from the Tim Holtz pattern paper, then i used my watercolor pencils to make them all pink and purple. I stamped the word love all around and added some punched out hearts as well.

I have a five day weekend starting tomorrow and an art project due on Tuesday so for the next few days i will be updating you with my progress.

Happy Valentine's Day!

(sorry for the sideways picture)
This is a card i made for my mom to give to my dad. The hear was cut out on my cricut and then i covered it in red glitter... (which ended up EVERYWHERE!) the wood grain was stamped with an inked up stamp i sprayed with water to make it a little blotchier.

Some Drawings

I've been having lots of fun with my watercolor pencils. Above is a bird (clearly) and below is a car that... well... is pretty misshapen. I'm not the best drawer, that's for sure.
Below is a snake that I did yesterday with the new oil pastels I got. It was the first time I really used them so I was just testing them out.

Watercolor Butterfly Card

Let's face it... I'm not studying. I spend my time watching countless episodes of How I Met Your Mother and learning the Harry Potter song on guitar. So here's a card my mom asked my to make for one of her friends.
I used watercolor pencils to color the stamped butterflies. I attached them to the square card base only with a bit of glue in the center so the wings stuck up.
The gold circle is a piece of chipboard that i put a few layers of gold embossing powder on.
Then I stamped the little "happy birthday"

AHHHHHHHHHHH

Sorry there wasn't a post yesterday but I'm really busy studying for exams and my winter break is almost over and i want to be spending it with friends. I think when things calm down a bit in a few weeks I'll be back every Thursday.
Oh and if you noticed I had 80 posts last year and that's double of 2010! I like that number even if it was nothing like the blog every day thing like i had planned.

Time to study for Physics!
